About Us

we Are PCDF

Positive Care and Development Foundation, creating lasting impacts that transform lives.

We are a women-led non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO) working to prevent and mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS, treament of Clubfoot and Malaria in children, and advocate for women inclusion in Nigeria.

PCDF was established in March 2002 in response to the poor representation and exclusion of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and other vulnerable groups from key government policy and decision-making processes on health and HIV/AIDS-related issues. One of its core objectives is to create a mechanism for civil society to engage with stakeholders and the government in building a strong national response. The organization recognizes the importance of grassroots communities in delivering innovative, sustainable, and community-owned approaches to public health challenges affecting vulnerable populations.

PCDF is officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML- RN: SC151400370). It is also recognized by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Social Welfare Development Agency, the Treatment Action Movement Nigeria, the Ministry of Women and Youth Affairs, the National Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), and the National Youth Network on HIV/AIDS (NYNETHA). Additionally, PCDF played a key role in the formation of and serves as a board member for the Cross River State Agency for the Control of AIDS (CRSACA).

Our work focuses on youth, children, and women, addressing issues related to human rights, poverty, sexual and reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS. PCDF works closely with vulnerable children, youth, and women across Nigeria to ensure their rights, health, and well-being are protected and promoted.

PCDF currently coordinates the Treatment Action Movement (TAM) in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. It is a member of the Association of OVC NGOs in Nigeria (AONN), the International Community for Women Living with HIV (WLWHIV), the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA), and the Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA). The organization also facilitated the formation of the Cross River State Chapter of the Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CRINEPHWAN) and the Association of Positive Youth in Nigeria (APYIN).

PCDF operates in six local government areas—Akamkpa, Calabar South, Calabar Municipality, Ikom, Biase, Odukpani, and Akpabuyo—with a dedicated team of nine full-time staff, twelve part-time staff, and 200 volunteers.

We have received several recognition for its contributions to HIV/AIDS advocacy and impact. We were recognised by the President of the United States for our selfless and humanitarian efforts.

The Cross River State Government acknowledged PCDF as the first organization to give a human face to HIV/AIDS. In addition, PCDF won the prestigious Red Ribbon Breaker of Silence Award in Lagos, presented by Journalists Against AIDS in Nigeria (JAAIDS) at Ogba.

Positive Care and Development Foundation (PCDF) has also received an Award of Excellence from the Women, Youth, and Children Upliftment (WYCUT) organisation for its efforts in improving and giving hope to the lives of women and children. In 2008, PCDF was honoured with the Hero Award by the Global HIV/AIDS Initiative Nigeria (GHAIN) for its outstanding contributions to the HIV/AIDS response in Cross River State, 2024 Quality Performance Award is proudly presented to Positive Care and Development Foundation for the provision of club foot care in Nigeria which meets high global standards, and 2024 Elevation Ward is proudly presented to Positive Care and Development Foundation for exceptional improvement in clubfoot tenotomy performance in FY24.
