In solidarity with global efforts to promote breastfeeding and as part of its commitment to maternal and child health care services, Positive Care and Development Foundation participated in the official flag-off of the 2025 World Breastfeeding Day with the team “Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems”.
The event was in collaboration with the Cross River State Ministry of Health, Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, the Humanity without Borders Empowerment Initiative, World Health Organisation, Zipline and partners alongside key stakeholders. This epoch-making event was commemorated on the 1st of August 2025.
This year’ theme underscores that breastfeeding extends beyond a personal choice; it requires robust environmental, institutional, workplace, healthcare, and community systems to sustain the practice over time.

The Cross River State Commissioner for Health, in his speech, emphasised the need for exclusive breastfeeding, stating that “if women stop breastfeeding, the world is at risk. Breastfeeding is not optional; it must be prioritised. While some may focus on the breast itself, we in the Ministry of Health focus on the act of breastfeeding.” If you have breasts, feed your child. As a breastfeeding mother, you play a vital role in the health and survival of your child, and the government is committed to supporting you in that responsibility.
Furthermore, He emphasised that Cross River State upholds and implements a six-month paid maternity leave policy to promote exclusive breastfeeding. He further posited that breastfeeding requires collective support from husbands, families, and communities to ensure that mothers are encouraged and empowered throughout the breastfeeding journey.

PCDF, in her effort to ensure collaboration and integration across programmes in the state, was on the ground to support every aspect of the event.
