For years, Ediba Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Cross River State struggled with inadequate manpower, limiting its operational hours and preventing it from delivering 24-hour healthcare services. This critical gap often led to long waiting time and left residents minimal access to essential medical care during night-time emergencies. Community stakeholders repeatedly voiced their concerns, highlighting the danger of delayed treatment in urgent situations occurring after work hours.

Recognizing the severity of the challenge, Positive Care and Development Foundation (PCDF), through its Community-Led Monitoring Team (CLMT), took decisive actions I. Addressing the gap. The team escalated the issue to the State Advocacy Team (SAT), which launched a series of sustained and strategic engagements with key state health authorities.

Thanks to this concerted advocacy effort, the state government approved the deployment of additional healthcare workers to 196 Primary Health Centres across the state. Ediba PHC was one of the key beneficiaries, receiving three (3) new healthcare personnel.

Today, Ediba PHC has transitioned to a three-shift system. This transformation has significantly boosted the facility’s ability to deliver continuous, high-quality healthcare services. Clients now experience reduced waiting times, and community members can access timely medical care.

What once stood as a barrier to life-saving treatment has now become a model of improved service delivery, demonstrating the power of community advocacy and collaboration with government stakeholders in strengthening healthcare systems.
